The high-tech sector is growing twice as fast in Flanders than in Limburg

The presence of the high-tech sector is noticeably weaker in Limburg compared to the average across Flanders as a whole. In Limburg, the sector accounts for 6% of total added value, while in Flanders as a whole, that figure lies at 13%. Limburg is also lagging behind in terms of employment. Nevertheless, in an increasingly knowledge-driven society, the innovative nature of the high-tech sector makes it an important driver of economic growth. So to keep up with Flanders, Limburg must now shift up a gear. Campus developments and the possible arrival of the Einstein Telescope have the potential to boost the sector in Limburg.
